Race 1 - CandleStick Point CycloCross

October 4th, 2015

Well……………………..DRAT! Rats! Ramma Framma Fricka Frazza!

We’ve lost our first race for 2015. There will not be an October 4thseason opener at Candlestick – GP Clark Natwick will move to our Candlestick double-header November 21/22.

What happened? Any special event requires on site supervision from the local permitting authorities, whether it’s a ‘cross race on state parks land, criterium on city streets, or road race on state highways. Most of our $2,500 permit fees go towards funding weekend extra Ranger coverage of the set-up and events days. California State Parks is seriously understaffed in the Bay Area parks and they could not find an available Ranger to cover our first event. The double-header weekend in November is good – we have coverage for that race but October 4th is a bust.

Are we:

Disappointed? Sure but we’re also Determined to make the balance of our 13th season as spectacular as possible! See you at the Night Race at Sierra Point Nov. 7th/8th – another double-header weekend!

Sierra Point double-header – is a Go!

Candlestick November double-header – is a Go!

CCCP – Cyclocross @ Coyote Point – is a Go!

Already registered? will be refunding all entries including service fee. It’s far easier to issue refunds than transferring your registration to another event.

Our 2015 season (Season 13 for anyone counting) opens at Candlestick – but without our old neighbor across the street and without USAC permit, unlike 2014. We are back to our non-sanctioned selves running our events under Tom’s Rules instead.

The stadium is gone but the Candlestick State Recreation Area survives and in fact isn’t affected by the future development plans for that huge parking lot.  We still call it the ”GP Clark Natwick”, named after the current coach, Peninsula Velo mentor, multi-US cyclocross title holder and more! He’ll be on hand to help with our podium ceremonies.

We’ll be mowing the tall grass in late September to prep this for you with some of our regular past features and some new ones. Candlestick offers a little pavement – we have a separate Start Zone that enters the course after the pavement – and  October weather conditions which means likely hard, dry and some dust. But it’s California ‘cross – come and enjoy one of NorCal’s most familiar homes.
