On line registration for Clif Bar’s Bay Area Super Prestige Cyclocross events closes this Wednesday at 10:00 pm - it’s the season kick-off at Candlestick and we’ve just finished mowing down acres of weeds and sweet smelling wild fennel. Take a look at some of the scenery and what you can expect at this year’s event across from the 49’ers stadium. The ground squirrels currently run the place and they’ve dug hundreds of burrows – some of which are right in our path – but that will change this coming Saturday on set-up day when the Roaring Mice course crew starts swinging picks, shovels, and mattocks.
This is California-cross and that means dry conditions, pretty firm surfaces, and thanks to the squirrels, bumpy in places. Roaring Mice, since they’re racing on these pathways themselves, will be motivated to knock down as many of the lumps as possible. We’ll also be preparing the 2 TRP Brake Zones, a few natural run-ups with our wood steps, and much, much more.
We hope you’ll grab your PC, laptop, or mobile device and sign up before Wednesday night so we’ll know how many to plan for. There is no late entry fee but grid positions for our “A” category races will be based on pre-registration – we won’t have time on race day to plug someone into a front or 2^nd row position if you haven’t pre-entered. Grids will likely be 7 lanes wide with call-ups for 14 athletes, based upon our last event in 2011 – CCCP.
